Why Use A Butcher Block

By Paul White

A butcher block is a handy item to have in any kitchen. It serves more of a purpose than most people realize just by its very presence. In fact, the very use of it can end up saving consumers a lot of money in a variety of ways.

The most common use for a butcher block was traditionally in the butcher shop, hence the name. Then people started putting them in their homes as they refined their kitchens to be more decorative. Now, it is used to cut all manner of things. One of its uses it to help the consumer to avoid replacing things unnecessarily.

How can what seems to be just a piece of wood save anyone money? Well, the use of this item can save the consumer from having to replace knives that were ruined on surfaces they shouldn't have been used on. Using a knife on a surface that's made for it extends its life. Therefore, it saves you money.

So, if you aren't cutting things on a butcher block, then where are you cutting them. The answer is probably your counter top. This is an instance where knives are being used in places that may dull them. Not only that, but it doesn't do your counter top any good either.

If you're thinking that you don't mind cut marks on your counter top, you might want to think again. Maybe you don't mind looking at those marks, but what happens if you try to sell your house? It may seem like a small thing, but you never know who is going to be picky about what. Besides, having the butcher block there might be something that the new home owners would like.

As you can see, this item is not only handy to have around, but saves you from dealing with a couple of financial issues that could easily be avoided.
